One of the Best Pop C.D. Import Artists Around ! - Donalds had a minor American hit a few years ago called Mishale (often played on top 40,dance,r&b stations). Then, he mysteriously disappeared from the American music market scene and re-emerged several years later in the European music market. This resulted in Enigma artist and mastermind Michael Cretu (and Jens Gad) producing and writing some of the material for this gem in 1999!Donalds then went on to be featured as a vocalist on the 4th Enigma album Screen Behind the Mirror in 2000.The story goes that Cretu heard Donalds hit Mishale in Europe and was taken aback by his voice.Called him up and asked him if he wanted to be on the new Enigma album and produce an album for him as well (the end result being Snowin Under My Skin). The title and track is actually a re-make of Cretu s pre-Enigma days (1987)with another singer called Tissy Thiers. At that time it was released on a European rock album titled Belle Epoque.Donalds new version is a lot more soulful and emotional ! Also, the Air Supply re-make of All Out Of Love is EXCELLENT than the original ! I never liked the original to begin with...Fans or novices interested in purchasing this import because of Donald s affiliation with the Enigma family need to first realize and not get their hopes up that Snowin Under My Skin will also have that Gregorian chant,European club-dance sound. This is a more introspective recording containing wonderful doses of acoustical guitar work and heavy-laden percussive drum beats (similar to Screen Behind the Mirror). The so-called Enigma synthesized sound is kept to a bare minimum. Donalds vocal style is not your typical R&B vocalist. His style is a cross between alternative and trip-hop. He is quite talented. His voice is neither light or airy nor is it a heavy tenor,It can only be described as pop-weight.Donalds voice is comparable to Cretu s own. However,where Cretu s may be limited, Donalds soars (on Screen Behind the Mirror it was almost impossible to distinguish Donalds voice from Cretu s and vice versa).Keep in mind that Donalds was a solo artist in his own right before ever becoming affiliated with the Enigma project. Yet, Andru Donalds is truly talented and sings with powerful conviction and meaning.His next future European album release may be more dance or pop influenced in the Enigmatic sense. So far there have been two singles released from this forthcoming album (at the time of this writing the c.d. should be titled Let s Talk About It) also produced by Cretu & Gad.The two singles are the mid tempo-dance number Precious Little Diamond (backing vocals include Sandra Cretu from Enigma) and (I m Not Your) One Night Lover...Snowing Under My Skin is the thinking person s or thinking import collecor s c.d. Like the old cliche food for thought, this is pure music for thought !
